A couple of things happened last week in Scotland regarding the games industry. Firstly I announced the 4th annual Scottish Games Education Symposium to be held at West College Scotland on the 3rd March 2026. Then on the 21st Brian Baglow delivered his National Action Plan for Scottish Games. Why are both related well put simply point 3 of the plan –  National Games Skills & Education Forum the goal is to create a focused talent pipeline all the way through peoples careers from education to employment.

I have already been working on the Scottish Games Education Network now for the past 5 years to help bring together those who work in games education and hope that going forward to be able to use our network to help establish the National Games Skills and Education Forum. Over that time although its been quiet on the outside we have been working away and one of our first actions is now coming to fruition with the launch of the Qualification Development Team to look at the HN Games Development qualification and revising to bring it up to date and suitable for our learners today. Hopefully this will be in place for 2027 start if not sooner.  However we do need a forum where industry will work with us in education and so far it has been slow going with the Education Symposium in terms of industry input – we want to know what industry wants in education yet have heard very little back despite giving opportunity so maybe the forum could bridge the gap?

There will be scope for discussion at the symposium and we hope to see you there.

Sign up here to attend on the 3rd March.
